Advertising and Public Relations

Advertising is a form of marketing communication that is utilized in order to persuade an audience though television, radio, websites, billboards, magazines, etc.  Advertising is everywhere, when you go online, to the store, and in your television. Advertising promotes need recognition for customers, on the other hand public relations is building and maintaining relationships with customers. Public relations is crucially important for any organization. The purpose of Public relations is to earn and keep customers trust.

Advertisement is selling pitches that are sent through pictures, word messages, or short commercial. It simply persuades its customer to buy a certain product or service. For example Allstate Mayhem advertising campaign persuades people into buying its insurance. Allstate has a cleaver advertisement strategy; the Mayhem’s commercials are short selling pitches that send a message that allows people to connect with various events that might occur. For example, it sends out the message that “Mayhem” is bad luck that people don’t expect. Mayhem is various things, a deer, a teenage driver, a driver’s blind spot, a distraction, and many other things that can cause expensive outcomes.

On the other hand public relations has higher credibility than advertising. It maintains relationships with existing customers after perusing them to purchase a company’s product or service. Johnsons & Johnsons is an example of a company that has gain customer loyalty by responding to a death tragedy caused by Tylenol. In 1982, Tylenol recalled 31 million bottles of Tylenol from all stores after a few people died from it. The company lost millions from recalling all the bottles of Tylenol, however this showed that the company was able to put its customers before its sales and because of this it gained customer loyalty.  As a result, the company quickly recovered after it placed sealed Tylenol bottles back to the market.
